چکیده
Reference point indentation (RPI) is a novel experimental technique designed to evaluate bone quality. This study utilizes two RPI instruments, BioDent and Osteoprobe, investigate the mechanical responses of several 3D-printed polymers. We correlated properties from tensile test with parameters obtained OsteoProbe. In addition, we tested same polymers five years later (Age 5). The results show that for Age 0 polymers, elastic modulus highly average unloading slope (r = 0.87), first 0.85), material strength index (BMSi) loading 0.82), distance 0.79), total 0.76). ultimate stress correlates significantly 0.83), BMSi 0.81), 0.73), 0.71), 0.70). elongation has no significant correlation except creep 0.60). Nickel and iron based alloys are widely used as raw materials in 3D printing or additive manufacturing process. In direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) process, a primary 3D printing technique for metals, metallic powders are sintered to a desired shape by heat energy from a laser beam. This study presents a molecular dynamics study to simulate the sintering process and resultant mechanical prop...
متن کاملReference point indentation is insufficient for detecting alterations in traditional mechanical properties of bone under common experimental conditions.
Reference point indentation (RPI) was developed as a novel method to assess mechanical properties of bone in vivo, yet it remains unclear what aspects of bone dictate changes/differences in RPI-based parameters. The main RPI parameter, indentation distance increase (IDI), has been proposed to be inversely related to the ability of bone to form/tolerate damage. The goal of this work was to explo...
متن کاملPrediction of viscoelastic and plastic properties of polymers using indentation
Indentation methodologies are gaining popularity as they provide means of local property estimation, utilize smaller sample sizes, and do not destroy specimens. Classically, indentation has been used to measure hardness and Young’s modulus [1], but researchers have also proposed ways of predicting stress–strain curves [2], yield strength [3], and fracture toughness [3]. Different indentation te...
متن کاملEstimation of local anisotropy of plexiform bone: Comparison between depth sensing micro-indentation and Reference Point Indentation.
The recently developed Reference Point Indentation (RPI) allows the measurements of bone properties at the tissue level in vivo. The goal of this study was to compare the local anisotropic behaviour of bovine plexiform bone measured with depth sensing micro-indentation tests and with RPI. Fifteen plexiform bone specimens were extracted from a bovine femur and polished down to 0.05µm alumina pas...
